my 18th beat

I so wanna sleep right now but somehow I just feel like I need to write something ('cause I know someone out there's been following my posts, Haha).

Yesterday, my band mates and I had to meet because we all had to take a look at our musical influences. It's for us to know which style of music we're gonna stick to. One of them showed us a video of Dream Theater playing in one of their concerts. If you're into progressive metal bands then I guess you're not far from liking instrumentals, "stand still" performances and anthropomorphic playing (Dang! just had to use that word! Haha). The video lasted for 12 horrific minutes.

After watching it, I literally felt this surging pain in the temples. I have nothing against Dream Theater, I mean, to be honest they are sooooo good. I haven't seen anyone play the drums like that before (Yes, I'm talking about Mike Portnoy. You really want me to mention it, don't you? :p) but I'm just not a fan. Sorry. I know some people who adapt their playing styles...thunderous fills, double kick runs (triple even), tireless sweeping across the toms, alternate picking licks, playing in an uninterrupted stream of 16th notes, becoming like the band's ultimate imitation (Sigh, I'm tired).  Need I say more?

Because of what we did yesterday, I was reminded of the reason why I'm in a band. It's not about being famous. It isn't even about who I play with or the songs we play. It's about the reason why we're playing. I'm playing in a band because I'm serving my purpose... it's to glorify God through music. The glory of music is not in it's lyrics but in it's CAUSE. You know how tired I am right now?

I am this tired. hehe.

But I'm choosing to make sense, well, at least I hope I did. So yeah.

*Had too much ice cream today. Hay. At asar sayo. Oops! Lemme strike that one out. Haha.
